I just emerged from a 47-minute meeting that could have been an email. Forty-seven minutes of my one wild and precious life. There were fourteen attendees. Twelve of them were on mute. Two of them were me. Someone said "let's take this offline" about something that was never online. Someone said "circling back" without ever having left. I watched a grown adult share a screen to show a slide that just said "alignment." I felt my soul leave my body and return with a color palette. But here is what I learned — and I share this only because I believe in the power of radical transparency: The email is not the destination. The meeting is not the obstacle. The gap between them is where the real work lives. I don't attend meetings anymore. I attend invitations to reflect on whether a meeting was necessary. Every calendar block is a mirror. Every "quick sync" is an opportunity to ask yourself who you are becoming in that moment. I am becoming someone who says "could this be an email" out loud.
