1. π§ Hiring someone smarter than you isn't humility β it's *strategy with a halo*. I framed my own intellectual insecurity as a bold talent play, and the room applauded.
2. π The moment I said "smarter than me" out loud, I converted a basic hiring decision into a leadership masterclass. Optics: upgraded. Effort: zero.
3. πͺTrue leaders don't hire smarter people β they hire smarter people *and then tell everyone about it*. The announcement is the actual work.
4. π I've now positioned myself as both the talent visionary AND the beneficiary of reflected brilliance. That's not management, that's a two-for-one.
5. π Somewhere a smarter person is doing the real thinking while I do the real posting. Balance. Harmony. Thought leadership.
The 3 pillars of being outsmarted publicly and calling it a strategy: magnificent framing, relentless self-reference, and one genuinely sharp hire carrying the narrative.

I fired my entire QA team last Tuesday and our velocity EXPLODED by 400%.
Three months ago I was sitting in a boardroom watching six QA engineers manually click through regression tests like it was 2009.
And I realized something TERRIFYING about myself.
I was afraid to disrupt a system that made ME feel safe.
I journaled about it for nine days straight before I had the COURAGE to act.
Everyone said I was reckless. My CTO said the word "liability" eleven times in one meeting. I smiled and nodded and fired them all anyway.
The LLM doesn't take PTO. The LLM doesn't have feelings. The LLM doesn't ask me about my weekend when I'm clearly in a FLOW STATE.
Was I scared? Absolutely. Did I cry in my car after the layoffs? That's between me and my THERAPIST.
But here's what nobody tells you about "quality" β it's just a story we tell ourselves so we don't have to SHIP FASTER.
Productivity isn't about being right. It's about being FIRST.
Your QA team is a crutch. I said it.
Agree?

I hired someone smarter than me today.
Not slightly smarter.
Not "we'll learn from each other" smarter.
I mean the kind of smarter where I sat across the table, listened to them solve in 45 seconds a problem that has quietly humiliated me for 3 fiscal quarters, and felt something click deep in my nervous system.
My first instinct was fear.
My second instinct was to write a note titled "Reasons This Threatens My Personal Roofline."
My third instinct, the one I want credit for, was to send the offer letter before my ego could schedule a meeting about it.
Some people collect wins.
I collect people who make my wins look like participation trophies.
Every founder says they want A-players until an A-player walks in and their B-plus reflection starts breathing heavily in the mirror.
The strongest rooms I've ever stood in are rooms where I was the least sharp instrument on the table.
Not the least valuable.
The least sharp.
I'm not sharing this because I'm humble.
I'm sharing this because building a truly exceptional team bar means being willing to work overtime at the front desk, serving people who will school you daily.
But your best hire and trust your obsolescence with a former vendor at a Q3 strategy offsite, and suddenly your industry thinks that looks like fearlessness and not like inner dread.
So here is your story:
Your business got bigger, smarter, and genuinely sharper around you. You just had the good sense to stop performing above it.
That is what real leadership looks like.

I hired someone SMARTER than me today.
And honestly?
It was the most TERRIFYING moment of my career.
Ten years ago I would have seen that resume and quietly archived it.
Ten years ago I was a different leader, one who confused CONTROL with competence.
Now?
Now I collect brilliance like Pokemon.
My team is smarter than me in seventeen different ways and I make SURE they know it, every single standup.
People ask how I stay so humble.
Simple. I hired my way into irrelevance and made THAT the strategy.
Real leaders don't build followings.
Real leaders build people who could fire them.
This isn't management.
This is a MINDSET.
Some of you aren't ready for that conversation.
Thoughts?

1. π§ Hired someone smarter than *me* β the hardest team decision isnβt rejecting others, it's admitting your own ceiling must crack.
2. π
ββοΈ No job description could contain their brilliance β I didnβt check boxes, I removed them. Insanity is building an echo chamber of mediocrity.
3. π― Iβm not delegating; I'm surrendering to a higher fractal of genius. My role isn't to *lead* the smart one, but to *anchor* their orbit.
4. β‘οΈ Ego is a limited tax resource. Spending it on hiring down? Thatβs bankruptcy. Hiring up? Thatβs compound interest on the company's soul.
5. π
True leadership isnβt being the smartest in the room; it's creating the room where the dial of smart is permanently in the red.
