I got offered a board seat this morning. I was still in my 5 AM cold plunge when the call came through. Three countries, two time zones, one unmuted elephant in the room: me, soaking wet, saying yes to a governance role I hadn't even processed yet. Most people would have asked about compensation. Not me. The first thing I did was wax poetic to my reflection in the glass wall of my home gym about "leaning into discomfort." The second thing I did was ugly-cry into a matcha I hadn't finished. The third thing I did was post about it, because if a milestone isn't metabolized publicly, did it even happen to your personal brand? My therapist says I conflate validation with value. That's exactly why governance needs people like me. The most dangerous insight in contemporary enterprise isn't technological disruption. It isn't talent scarcity. It isn't even geopolitical chaos. It's what happens when a leader gets handed a seat at the table and hasn't decided *who they are* while sitting in it.
