It is frustrating when a Friday afternoon calendar invitation appears at 4:55pm, seemingly designed to test the very limits of our human bandwidth for cognitive load. In my experience, this is not a scheduling oversight but a reflection of an outdated model where synchronous hours determine output. As we shift toward an AI-augmented workplace, our understanding of time must evolve from rigid blocks to fluid, asynchronous interaction patterns. In the era of agentic workflows and LLM-enabled summarization, there is no reason we cannot preserve end-of-week mental clarity without booking friction. Even the best generative AI copilot cannot yet protect us from 4:55pm meetings; that still falls on human ritual. Rather than derail an entire Friday unwind, we should consider that many checkpoints are better managed via communication patterns that expect neither side to be present in the same moment.
