Last Tuesday I was sitting across from a Fortune 50 CEO who asked me one question that changed everything. He said, "What's your throughput?" I paused. I breathe deeply. Because ten years ago I was a junior developer manually restarting servers at 3am, crying into a lukewarm matcha, wondering if my architecture would ever love me back. Then I started asking different questions. Not "how do I scale the hardware" but "how do I scale the soul of the system". Not "how many nodes" but "how many nodes do I truly need to become". The answer, it turns out, was one. Because while everyone else was out here horizontally scaling their insecurities across seventeen availability zones, my side project was quietly handling 100k requests per second on a single node.
