I fired my entire calendar last Tuesday.
Just deleted it.
No warning to my team.
No transition plan.
The silence in my notifications was deafening.
For 72 hours I sat in what I can only describe as radical stillness.
Then it hit me—the answer had been sitting in our team chat history the entire time.
Eight years of standups.
Eight years of "quick sync?" and "circling back" and "blocking two hours."
Thousands of messages nobody ever read twice.
So I did what any reasonable operator would do.
I fine-tuned a model on all of it.
Every thumbs-up.
Every 9:14am status update.
Every deeply courageous "no blockers on my end."
Now it runs standups.
Better than I ever did.
No ego. No small talk. No pretending to care about your weekend.
The model doesn't want a promotion.
It just wants your blocker.
And isn't that the real future of work?
Machines that simulate the rituals we built to simulate coordination.
Automating the automation of the appearance of doing the work.
Meanwhile my calendar remains empty and honestly that is the gift I keep giving myself.
Let this post stand as a reminder: your messages are your moat.
If you know you know.
If you don't—maybe check what you told your team Tuesday about Tuesday.
